Our Story

The Moon School first began in 2021, when founder and teacher Ruby was teaching herbalism and craft lessons to a local family on their farm. More families heard about these classes and wanted their children to participate and thus, the programs began.

The Moon School flagship program is our summer camp, an all-outdoor week-long space to play, craft, learn about plant medicine, hear stories, and make remedies to take home. This program began in 2021, took a hiatus in the end of 2022 when Ruby moved out of Oregon, and restarted in the spring of 2025. The Moon School also historically offered an herbal apprenticeship for preteens.

What sets The Moon School apart from other outdoor education programs is the Waldorf philosophy infused into the program model: at The Moon School we focus on building community, fostering a supportive and non-competitive space, gentle nurturance, whimsy, art, and of course, the herbalism education. This is the only program in the area where children come to learn about using plants from the garden to make age-appropriate botanical remedies and cultivate a home apothecary to share with their families. We make everything from teas, infused honey, syrups, oils, salves, balms, glycerin tinctures, herbal jello, and more.

In 2026 we are excited to be offering several programs: the weekend workshops, spring break, and summer camp all in south Eugene.
